Hair Loss

PRP and PRF for hair loss at Gambhir M.D. on Central Park South, Manhattan. Physician-led care for early to moderate thinning in women and men.

Thinning hair is common, and it affects both women and men. It can be gradual and hard to watch, and it has many causes, so PRP/PRF suits some patterns better than others. At your consultation at our Manhattan practice, we look honestly at your hair, and we also discuss nutritional support, medical dermatology, or hair transplantation when those would serve you better.

Services

PRP/PRF

PRP and PRF are made from a small sample of your own blood and injected into the scalp. They are not FDA-approved for hair loss, and the published evidence is mixed, though of their uses hair loss has the more consistent support. Usually given as a series. We will tell you honestly what to expect.

The right habits at home support what we do in the office. A few simple things, kept up over time, help protect the hair you have.

Nutrition and iron

Hair needs steady building blocks. A diet rich in protein, iron, and B vitamins gives the body what it needs to grow strong hair. Iron deficiency is one of the most common overlooked causes of thinning, especially in women. If your hair loss is new or accelerating, ask your primary doctor for basic blood work.

Manage stress and sleep

Sudden shedding often follows stress, illness, or a major life event by two to three months. It usually recovers on its own, but managing stress and getting steady sleep helps the recovery along.

Be gentle

Tight ponytails, hot tools, harsh chemical treatments, and aggressive brushing all speed hair breakage. A softer routine protects the hair you have.

Know when to see a dermatologist

Some patterns of hair loss respond best to prescription medicine or a full dermatology workup. If you notice patchy loss, sudden shedding, scalp itching or scarring, or a family history of significant hair loss, a medical dermatology visit belongs in your plan.
