Collagen & Volume Loss

Collagen and volume restoration at Gambhir M.D. on Central Park South, New York City uses Sculptra, Thermage, dermal filler, microneedling, PRF, and ezGEL.

Collagen is the support structure of the skin, and we slowly lose it as we age. As collagen and deep volume fade, the face can begin to look flatter, more hollow, and less firm. At our New York City practice, restoring that lost foundation is one of the most natural ways to look refreshed.

Age is not the only cause. Rapid weight loss, including weight loss on a GLP-1 medication such as semaglutide or tirzepatide, drains the same deep fat pads and produces the hollow, drawn appearance commonly called Ozempic face. The treatments overlap, but the timing does not. While you are still losing weight, the valuable work is building collagen and elasticity so the skin has more capacity to rebound. Replacing lost volume is the part that holds up better once your weight is steady.

Services

Sculptra

Sculptra is an injection based collagen stimulator. Rather than simply filling space, it prompts your body to rebuild its own collagen gradually, over months. It is a natural, lasting way to restore broad volume.

Thermage

Thermage is a heat based collagen stimulator that helps through the face and neck to build even more collagen and support the youthful rejuvenation of the face.

Dermal Filler

Where volume is needed in a specific area, filler restores it right away, with immediate, controllable results. Newer generation fillers have the ability to lift without overfilling, leading to a more natural appearance.

Microneedling – SKIN PEN

Microneedling creates tiny channels in the skin that trigger collagen production. Over a series of treatments, firmness and quality improve.

PRF

PRF (platelet-rich fibrin) is drawn from your own blood and is sometimes paired with microneedling. It is not FDA-approved for cosmetic use, and the evidence is mixed.

ezGEL

ezGEL is a soft gel prepared from your own blood. It is not an FDA-approved dermal filler, and anything it adds is temporary, generally a few months.

Alastin Restorative Skin Complex

Alastin’s flagship serum. It helps support your skin’s own production of collagen and elastin over time, which is exactly what is being lost as the face changes.

Alastin Renewal Retinol

Encourages cell turnover and supports the skin’s structure. Used at night, starting carefully.

Alastin HydraTint Pro Mineral Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 36

Sun damage breaks collagen down. Daily sunscreen helps preserve what we are working to rebuild.

The right habits at home support what we do in the office. A few simple things, kept up over time, help your skin hold onto collagen and stay resilient.

Minimizing sun exposure

Sun is one of the biggest causes of collagen breakdown. Wear a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every morning, even on cloudy days, and reapply when you are out. Add a hat and sunglasses on long days outdoors.

Collagen supplements

Collagen peptides taken regularly can support your skin’s collagen over time. The evidence is growing in their favor. Choose a reputable brand and stay consistent.

A daily multivitamin

A good multivitamin fills in the gaps your diet may miss, especially the nutrients that support skin and collagen production, such as vitamin C, zinc, and copper.

Eat well

A diet rich in protein, leafy greens, and colorful fruits and vegetables gives your body what it needs to keep building collagen. Cut back on excess sugar and ultra-processed foods, which speed visible aging.
