Some peeling is expected after a VI Peel. That is how it works. These steps help your skin renew smoothly. If anything concerns you, call us.
After Your Treatment
- Leave the peel solution on your skin for 4 hours unless otherwise directed.
- Moisturize the treated area well, until any dryness is gone, using the repair cream from your VI Peel kit. Aquaphor can be used for more intense moisturizing, especially at night.
- Use a sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher every day, on top of your moisturizer. The sunscreen in your VI Peel kit is exactly this.
- Stay out of direct sunlight until the skin is fully healed.
- If redness is excessive, an over-the-counter hydrocortisone can be used starting 2 days after the peel. The post-treatment repair cream in your VI Peel kit also contains hydrocortisone — use one or the other, not both.
- Makeup and routine skin care except for the use of exfoliants can be used as early as 24 hours after the peel. Makeup may not sit smoothly until the skin is done peeling.
- To avoid scarring, do not peel, pick, scrape, or scratch the skin.
- Avoid abrasive sponges or scrubs.
- Cleanse with the gentle cleanser from your VI Peel kit, or any cleanser with no acids in it.
- Dark spots may look darker during the peeling process. This is normal.
- Do not use Retin-A for 30 days after your peel.
- Do not have any laser treatments in the treated area for at least 30 days.
- Do not wax or pluck the treated area for 2 weeks.
- You may start wearing makeup the day after your peel, as long as there is no crusting or tenderness.
- You may purchase brightening or pigment correcting cream for daily, year-round use to maintain your results.
- Call the office if you have redness lasting beyond 21 days, or any brown discoloration three or more weeks after the peel.
- Follow all instructions in the VI Peel post care kit.
